The Fortnite Spider-Man crossover for Across the Spider-Verse has officially been announced and we can’t help but admire how much this artstyle fits these characters.
With games like the acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 leaning towards a more realistic artstyle, Fortnite’s stylish crossover event makes us yearn for more cartoony-looking Marvel games.
As fans can see, Miles Morales and Miguel O’Hara, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 respectively, will be coming to the popular Free-to-Play shooter soon. In addition to these two, fan-favorite Spider-Gwen/Ghost-Spider has been leaked, meaning that everyone from Across the Spider-Verse is here.
From what the leaks have shown, the Fortnite Spider-Man crossover characters look great and it’s like they were ripped from the film. Seeing them retain their animated look makes us wish the Spider-Man games from Insomniac looked just as cartoony. Granted, those games are far from ugly but we can’t help but want a bit more.
One other great example of a Marvel game with a cartoony artsyle is Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order on Switch. Seeing all of the characters in that game with a more animated look was great and was one of the reasons why this beat-em-up sold so well. For another plus, that game also has Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Spider-Gwen as playable characters.
In fairness to the Insomniac titles, both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales have great-looking Spider-Verse skins. However, their artstyles clash when paired up with the more realistic-looking city and characters, resulting in us not using them as much as we’d like.
Seeing the animated artstyle of the Fortnite Spider-Man crossover makes us wish future Marvel games would adapt this look but that seems doubtful. Marvel’s Avengers and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy opted for the realistic graphics approach, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 following suit.

Players will be able to access the Fortnite Spider-Man crossover tomorrow, presumably with an event or in-game currency. The game also had cosmetics from Spider-Man: Far From Home, though they don’t seem to be available anymore. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks like it will be coming out this September on PS5, based on what the Venom actor said.
