Should you play Fortnite on PS4 or PS5? What improvements will the PS5 version add?

Fortnite on the PS4 is a great way to pay the game, and ultimately, you won't be losing out by continuing to play on it.

However, the PlayStation 5's advanced tech will naturally offer some quality of life improvements to Epic Games' hugely successful battle royale game.

Unlike current-gen Fortnite, the PS5 version will run with stunning 4K visuals at a steady 60 FPS. utilising the graphical improvements available from the PS5 to display a more dynamic world, with trees, grass, and other objects will respond to explosions, for example.

The DualSense controller's Haptic Feedback feature will also improve the feel of each specific weapon in Fortnite, immersing next-gen players in the gameplay even more.

Aside from gameplay, the PS5's SSD means that loading times and performance has been significantly improved, getting players into matches much quicker.

Fortnite's next-gen version will be available on the PlayStation 5 console from Day 1. If you're worried about transferring your account across, Epic Games has confirmed that cross-progression will carry over to the new platforms if you log in with your Epic Account linked to your PS4.

How long will Fortnite work on PS4?

Now, ultimately, Fortnite is free, so you can just play it on whichever console you can afford, but it's important to note that PS4 support for the game won't last forever.

Fortnite is still playable on mobile devices, but every so often a new update comes out that removes older tech from the equation.

While we're unlikely to have it happen in the next three or so years, eventually Fortnite won't be playable on PS4. It's best to keep an eye out when updates happen for news on when this will happen specifically.
