Fortnite Monthly Crew Pack: A new subscription model could be on the way, but it might not be a bad thing

Fortnite is one of the biggest games in the world, and it's a big part of the reason the Epic Games has continued to rise and rise and become such a key player in gaming. It's so big, in fact, that it's still likely to be one of the most played games even on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Despite the game being free, it brought in over $1.8 billion in 2019, and that's largely thanks to the way it monetises the game with battle passes and cosmetics.

While monetisation like this can be quite oppressive, the way that Fortnite does it means you never feel as though you need to splash out money, and that's a good thing.

Well, it seems as though there could be more options for those who want to pay in the future.

Fortnite might be introducing monthly subscriptions

The leak for this has come about thanks to a survey that Epic Games sent out that iFireMonkey then tweeted out.

The subscription would include the Battle Pass, an outfit that subscribers get before it goes on sale, and 1,000 V-Bucks each month to spend however the user would like.

There's no firm indication on price yet, probably because this is just a hypothetical, but the survey asked users if they would be willing to pay $15.99 a month.

How do you feel about a monthly subscription to Fortnite?

There are a lot of gamers out there who still play Fortnite and very little else, so subscribing each month to get extra cool stuff is probably no big deal to them.

There are definitely arguments for and against this idea though, with the most obvious issue just being that money is a little tight for a lot of people at the moment.

On the other hand, this seems less important than just the Battle Pass itself, which is a purchase which can essentially pay for itself if you play the game enough.

So, maybe it's not that bad a thing if it means players can support a game they like more but don't feel pressured to do so. We'll see what happens if it ever gets introduced.
