Read on for our guide on how to prevent frame drops from ruining your Fortnite experience.
Lower your graphics settings
Even if your PC passes the minimum requirements for Fortnite, it may struggle to run the game at the highest settings.
Consistent frame drops may be a result of your graphics setting being too high, and so adjusting them downwards could ease some of the issues.
You can change your Video Settings in Fortnite's visual settings tab. Setting the Quality to low/medium and the View Distance to near/medium may solve prevent frame drops from ruining your Fortnite games.
Make sure to turn off Shadows, Anti-Aliasing, and set the Effects, Post Processing, and Textures to low, as these all require lots of processing power to maintain at a high setting for very little performance value.

Cap your framerate
As a PC player, it may be tempting to set your Fortnite frame rate to unlimited, but this often causes problems if your setup can't handle such high frame rates.
By capping the FPS depending on your monitor, you can still maintain a high frame rate (especially compared to console and mobile players) without suffering from frame drops.
If you have a 240Hz monitor, I'd recommend capping the FPS at 240. If your monitor is 144Hz or 60Hz, capping the FPS at 144 or 60 respectively should do the trick.
Close all other background applications
Even with a decent amount of RAM, keeping lots of tabs or applications open will take up unnecessary memory (particularly Google Chrome) while playing Fortnite, leading to more frame drops. If you're reading this article after Alt-Tabbing out of Fortnite, keeping it open will add to the problems.
Closing these down should ease some of the problems, or you might want to consider upgrading your RAM, especially if it's under 8GB.
