Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor doesn’t want to star in Marvel movies

Star Wars icon Ewan McGregor crossed into the DC universe as Black Mask a few years ago. However, the actor has now revealed that he’s not interested in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), at all.

While the actor could appear in a Marvel role in the future, it seems that the actor has had his fill of nerdy franchises. Well, at least for now.

Ewan McGregor chooses Star Wars over the MCU

During a panel at Fan Expo Boston, Ewan McGregor was asked if he had any interest in debuting in the MCU. While McGregor didn’t flat out say “no,” the Obi-Wan Kenobi actor’s answer made it seem like he doesn’t have too much interest in Marvel and its ever-growing universe.

Of course, he used the “never say never” tactic to keep the doors open. After all, joining the MCU usually means a decent payday.

"I don't know. I don't know that I want to do that," McGregor said (via ComicBook.com). "Because I love doing all different kinds of work. It's true. I love to direct. I'd like to be in the theater again. I definitely want to do this again, you know, I'm in this Star Wars world. I feel like I don't need another... I'm not looking for that anyway. I feel like I shouldn't say I wouldn't do it because in two years time you'll be like, 'You said you were never going to do this!' But I'm not looking for it particularly."

McGregor not wanting to say no right away makes sense since starring in an MCU film tends to get a lot of press. Even Jamie Lee Curtis said she would listen to a Marvel movie offer and she has been fairly critical of the studio’s film recent quality. Needless to say, don’t be too surprised if we see Ewan McGregor as Baldur the Brave in Thor 5.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 before jumping to the MCU?

With Ewan McGregor saying “I’m in this Star Wars world,” there’s a good chance that many fans are hoping there will be an Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 at some point. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s ending could be seen as a definitive end but it left so many things open that a second season of the hit Disney+ series seems likely.

Rumors have claimed that a second season could be in the works and McGregor himself has shown interest in continuing Obi-Wan’s story after the Season 1 finale. Hopefully, we get some information on this soon, though it’s not like Disney+ is lacking in Star Wars content right now.

MCU fans will be able to enjoy She-Hulk on Disney+ later this week, on August 18. Just don’t expect to see Ewan McGregor or Spider-Man and you should enjoy the show.
