Elizabeth Olsen is now a key actor for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the actor's role as Wanda Maximoff started off as a side character, she's quickly become an important part of the universe. In fact, now the Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff is going to help to kick off Marvel's multiverse arc.
Before her role as Wanda, Elizabeth Olsen was a fairly unknown actor. Outside of the terrible US remake of Oldboy and Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, Olsen starred in relatively small productions. However, at one point, there was a chance the actor would be able to make a name for herself in an iconic franchise: Game of Thrones.
Elizabeth Olsen auditioned for Game of Thrones
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Olsen revealed that she auditioned for HBO's Game of Thrones. Back in 2009, Elizabeth Olsen auditioned for one of the lead roles: Daenerys Targaryen. Unfortunately, Olsen explains that she completely flubbed the audition.
“Yes, I auditioned for Game of Thrones. I auditioned for, like, the assistant to the casting director in a small room in New York with just a camera on me and them reading the script. I was doing the Khaleesi speech when she comes out of the fire. It was awful. I didn’t get a callback."
The role of Daenerys Targaryen would eventually be taken by Emilia Clarke. Clarke played the iconic Khaleesi for eight seasons up until the finale in 2019. Nowadays, it's impossible to imagine the role being played by anyone else.

Game of Thrones actors in the MCU
While Elizabeth Olsen may not have been able to star in Game of Thrones, there has been some crossover between the show and the MCU.
For starters, Daenerys Targaryen actor Emilia Clarke is debuting in the MCU for Disney's Secret Invasion series. Furthermore, Kit Harrington and Richard Madden (Jon Snow and Rob Stark) are joining the MCU with The Eternals.
Lastly, for perhaps the most memorable MCU/GOT cameo, Peter Dinklage appeared in Avengers: Infinity War. In the movie, Dinklage played Eitri the Dwarf King of Nidavellir who forges Thor's Axe Stormbreaker.
