Disney is the largest entertainment company in the world. Not only does the conglomerate have access to a beloved back-catalogue of IP, but world-shifting current properties such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, there's always room to grow further. With the looming promise of a Metaverse from Facebook, Nvidia and the entire city of Seoul, what will the House of Mouse do to keep up? Well, double down, of course.
Disney will turn Disney+ into a Metaverse platform
During a recent earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek revealed that the company is working to jump into Metaverse tech. The company has previously partnered with light “Metaverse Games” such as Fortnite in the past. However, this will be pedestal the company as entertainment pioneers.
Chapek wants to use the future internet for crafting “storytelling without boundaries in our own Disney metaverse.” He said: “Our efforts to date are merely a prologue to a time when we’ll be able to connect the physical and digital worlds even more closely.”
The Disney+ streaming service will be the basis for this future project. In its current form, the service is a hub for all of the company's brands — especially in countries where Hulu is absent. This will only be exacerbated in the future.
In an interview with CNBC, Chapek said his “vision is to use Disney+ as the platform for the metaverse”. This will potentially result in the release of all of the company's metaverse content being part of the standard subscription.

How will Disney's metaverse work?
The Metaverse works by connecting myriad worlds of different size, scope and theme through one accessible platform. In the future, fans will be able to access the platform through the use of a virtual, augmented or mixed reality headset.
With the metaverse, Disney will be able to create fully immersive 3D experiences. These experiences will either take place in a 3D-rendered virtual environment or will be projected onto tangible reality. It all depends on how you access the metaverse.
