Marvel’s Blade movie is one of the more enticing movies coming to the MCU. However, the upcoming vampire-action movie isn’t without issue. Years into development, the new Marvel film is being completely rewritten.
Following the departure of director Bassam Tariq and writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour, the film will be entirely rewritten. While the film’s cast and characters are expected to stay the same, the overall storyline will play out differently.
Blade: From the ground up
After years of lacklustre scripts, Marvel’s Blade movie will be starting from scratch again. As the studio hunts for a new director to take on the film, an all-new script will be created as well.
The new script will be written by Moon Knight and X-Men ‘97 writer Beau DeMayo. According to The Direct, DeMayo impressed Marvel President Kevin Feige with his recent work on the X-Men animated series. Therefore, he’s expected to work on a lot more Marvel movies.
Stacy Osei-Kuffour's original script for Blade is said to be an origin story for the vampire hunter. Set during the 1920s, the story would’ve been a more relaxed, dread-filled look at the vampire underworld, instead of an action-packed movie.
DeMayo’s version may indeed end up keeping this period piece idea. However, the film will also be completely rewritten, bringing its structure more in-line with the Marvel formula.
This means that the released version of Blade will have more than two fight scenes. However, it may lose some of its slow, thought-provoking build up. After all, MCU films are designed for an average audience.

Send us back to the 20s
Personally, we’re hoping that we do get to see Blade in the 1920s. The last true period piece we got in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was Captain America: The First Avengers, and even that was in the 1940s.
Exploring the demonic, supernatural 1920s in this movie would be a brilliantly unique hook for the MCU. Furthermore, if vampires are more prominent back then, it could explain why we have yet to see them in the cinematic universe.
Hopefully, the entire movie will be set in the 20s. However, knowing Marvel, there will likely be some time jumps within the film; it’ll probably end in 2025 at the end of Eternals.
What do you think of setting Blade in the 1920s? What’s that? We don’t have comments? Oh, well you must agree with us then. That’s nice.
