Apple's annual launch events are always highly anticipated, and the upcoming 2024 Glowtime Launch Event is no exception. By focusing on innovative technology, Apple has consistently set the bar high for its product reveals.
As the event is near, speculation, excitement and rumours are building around what new gadgets and features Apple may reveal. From the iPhone 16 series to potential upgrades for the iPad and Apple Watch, there's a lot to expect at the Glowtime Event.
The event is set to take place Monday, September 9, at 10 AM PT at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
The iPhone 16 Series
The release of the iPhone 16 series is undoubtedly the most anticipated part of this year's Apple event. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, users can expect non-pro versions of the iPhone 16 to have a dedicated action button that was previously available only on the pro models. The control center and changeable lock screen options will also be more customizable.
A dedicated camera control button is also expected on the right side of the pro models. It will make the iPhone function like a DSLR camera, allowing you to press lightly to trigger autofocus and a hard press to click the image.
Pro models may come with bigger screens, and some new colors are expected to be introduced. The color blue may be replaced with the return of the popular rose gold.
Apple Watch Updates
Besides the iPhone 16 series, new Apple watches can be announced at the Glowtime event. The most-awaited ones are the Apple Watch 10 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3.
Also, there are rumours that Apple intends to revamp the Watch SE and use a plastic case instead of aluminium, cutting costs and allowing for bolder colorways.
Another upgrade may include new processors for both models and the larger display for the Watch 10. Also, we can expect to see that the connectors for bands will attach to the Apple Watch itself.
Supercharged A18 Chips for Apple Intelligence
Previously, the base model of iPhones didn't receive any major updates on their chips. Developers used the chip from previous years' pro models. However, this could change as the iPhone 16 and 16+ may receive new supercharged A18 chips.
This is because Apple Intelligence will require higher processing power. If this is true, then the base models of iPhones will receive a major upgrade, increasing efficiency and battery life.
With Apple Intelligence support on both these models, several features like AI-writing tools, GenMoji, and systemwide ChatGPT writing assistance will be available. It could be a huge selling point as all the older iPhones, excluding 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, won't have these features.
iOS 18 and Other Software Updates
iOS 18, currently in its testing stages, could be officially released at the Glowtime Launch Event. Apple Intelligence will also be formally a part of this operating system.
There are still plenty of AI-free updates in iOS 18 that will make existing iPhone owners happy. The core AI upgrades will be available in apps like Messages, Mail, Photos, Maps, and Wallets.
Apart from iOS 18, we are also expecting Apple to release or at least announce the iPadOS 18, WatchOS 11, and MacOS Sequoia.
New Improved AirPods
Lastly, we're looking forward to (fingers crossed) the arrival of AirPods Max 2. As Apple's pro-level earbuds stick to a three-year release cycle, the upcoming event may deliver a surprise.
These AirPods could come with a more comfortable design and smarter listening powers. As per Mark Gurman, Apple may also offer noise cancellation for the first time.
Apple's 2024 "Glowtime" launch event promises to be a showcase of the company's latest innovations. With exciting updates to the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and more, there is something to look forward to for tech enthusiasts of all kinds.
