Anthony Mackie is set to have a huge presence in the MCU soon, starring in Captain America: New World Order. Despite his star rising, the actor is more honest than ever, saying Marvel “owns your ass” when you sign with them.
It’s not the first we’ve heard of Marvel being demanding, with reports of Avengers: Endgame actors not having scripts to read due to paranoid secrecy. How exactly does Marvel Studios own actors? And will we see more actors be this blunt in future interviews?
Why Marvel owns their actor's asses
Variety recently asked Anthony Mackie if his version of Captain America would make a cameo in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. In one of the more surprising quotes we’ve seen, the actor says he has no idea but, well, look down.
“I have no idea. You know how it works. They call you the week before and are like, ‘We own your ass. Come get in the movie,’” says Mackie.
Obviously, this is Mackie having some fun, but it’s still surprising to see someone so blunt about their Marvel role. Because of this, we can’t wait to see some of Mackie’s interviews when Captain America: New World Order comes out.

Captain America: New World Order has input from Anthony Mackie
Snarky comments aside, we got to hear Anthony Mackie talk about his input for Sam Wilson’s first Captain America movie. Judging by his comments, it seems that he had plenty of great conversations with the film’s writers about the story.
“They’re definitely very inclusive. When we did “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” [writer] Malcolm Spellman and I talked at length about what that character was turning into, what we wanted him to be, what we wanted that narrative to be,” explained Mackie. “Now with Malcolm writing this “Captain America,” it’s the exact same thing. We’ve talked and communicated about what we want that story to be going forward and how it’ll fit in this new Marvel universe. You definitely get the idea of collaboration, but you don’t get to tell them what it’s going to be.”
Captain America: New World Order will be coming out on May 3, 2024.
