THX Spatial Audio App: New update gives 360-degree audio to ALL headphones, and it has game-specific settings for 18 games on PC


A hefty update to the THX Spatial Audio app has added some cool new settings, including the ability to add 360-degree audio to any set of headphones or earbuds that you care to use with the app.

Yep, you read that right. Thanks to this update, we're told by THX that "the now available THX Spatial Audio app will make any headphone or earbuds rival the highest end pair by adding a fully immersive audio experience."

The app is currently available for Windows 10 PCs and select laptops, but apparently it's "coming to mobile phones and more laptops before the end of 2020."

How it does work? Well, the press bumf says that "THX Spatial Audio transforms the traditional audio experience into immersive fully 360° sound by greatly enhancing the stereo and surround sound to deliver next-generation audio that intensifies the 3D soundscape."

What else is new in the THX Spatial Audio app update?

As THX's Jason Fiber explained in the press release. “For this launch, we partnered with both Razer and game developers to optimize the audio immersion and realism for game play with the launch of 18 new game profiles. Providing this elevated experience for gaming is the right next step in the evolution of the THX mission to bring content to the user the way the creator intended it to be enjoyed.”

Built in collaboration with developers, these THX Game Profiles come in two forms: there's THX Environmental Mode, which promises lifelike sound and the most immersive experience; and then there's THX Competitive Mode, which has more emphasis on spatial awareness and directional cues, for the quicker and more accurate locating of enemies.

Which games are supported with THX Game Profiles?

THX tells us that these games will have THX Game Profiles available: Apex Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valorant, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Call of Duty: Warzone, Destiny 2, Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy XIV, Half Life: Alyx, Metro Exodus, Monster Hunter: World, Red Dead Redemption 2, Resident Evil 2, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Battlefield 1.

There are some Terms and Conditions be aware of here, though, as the press bumf tells us: "The THX Spatial Audio Game Profiles is a specific feature update to both Razer Synapse and the THX Spatial Audio standalone application available at Razer.com. The THX Spatial Audio Windows 10 app is US$19.99 for new users, and for existing users of Razer 7.1 surround sound to upgrade to the full THX Spatial Audio app the cost is US$9.99. For Razer headset owners who are already utilizing THX Spatial Audio, there is no added cost for Razer users to access these new Game Profiles feature."
