Do you have no idea how to collab post on Instagram? Our guide is here to help you find out everything you need to know about the social media app.

Instagram is constantly adding new features to enhance the user experience. One of these features is collabs, which enables users to collaborate with one another. Using this feature, you can co-author an Instagram post or a Reel with another user.

In this post, we will discuss everything related to Instagram collabs such as how to create and accept a collab post, and more. Let's get into it!

How to collab post on Instagram

Creating a collab post on Instagram is simple. Just follow the usual steps to create a new Instagram post or Reel and once you are on the page where you can add your post details like caption and stuff, follow the steps below.

  • Tap on the Tag people option.
  • Then, choose Invite collaborator.
  • Search for the user you want to collaborate with and select their username. You can add multiple people as collaborators for a single post.
  • Once you’ve selected the user(s) you want to collaborate with, tap Done.
  • Write a caption, add hashtags and other stuff, and once you are done, tap on the Share button to create your very first collab post on Instagram.

Note that the collab post will go live only when the collaborator(s) accept your request. It is also worth mentioning that the original author can add or remove a collaborator at any time. So, if you wish to post it instantly, you can choose to add collaborators after posting.

How to accept collab posts on Instagram

Alternatively, if the other user is creating the post, you will have to accept their Collab request in order to show up as an author of the post. To accept a collab post on Instagram, follow the steps below:

  • Click on the invite notification from your Activity page. This will open the post with a note saying “@user invited you to be a collaborator on their post.”
  • Tap on the blue Review button next to the note. This will open a pop-up window to either accept or decline the invitation.
  • Select Accept and you're done.

Once you have accepted the collab, the post will be shared on your profile and your followers will see the post in their Feed. Here is how a collab post on Instagram looks like.

How to collab post on Instagram private account

The original author of the collab must have their account set to public in order to create a collab. In other words, if you have a private account, you cannot initiate a collab post - as of now.

However, you can be tagged as a collaborator in the collab post by the public original author. This means that your handle will appear alongside the original author's and the post will show up on your profile.

It is worth mentioning that the original author owns the post. If the original author switches their account to private, only their account’s followers can see the post. Similarly, if they delete the post, it will be removed from the collaborator’s profile as well.

How to collab post on Instagram after posting

The Instagram FAQ says that "the original author can add or remove a collaborator at any time." That means you can collab post after posting and here is how to do it.

  • Tap the 3-dot icon above the post you wish to edit.
  • Then, tap Edit.
  • Tap on the Tag people option.
  • Then, choose Invite collaborator.
  • Search for the user you want to collaborate with and select their username. You can add multiple people as collaborators for a single post.
  • Once you’ve selected the user(s) you want to collaborate with, tap Done.
  • Finally, save your edits by tapping Done (iPhone) or the tick icon (Android).

That's it! You can remove a collaborator by taking the same steps but select Edit Collaborator and press the x icon next to that person at the fourth step.
