How to get WhatsApp Dark Mode on your Android or iOS

WhatsApp Dark Mode is officially here! The much-anticipated update has been a long time in the making, but finally, users can give their chats a less eye-hurting design.

You could even say that the team behind WhatsApp have made stealth optional on their iconic instant messenger app. (See what we did there?!)

Whether you’re looking to help your eyes battle the daily strains of staring at bright screens or you just want to look cool, we’ve got you covered.

Keep reading as we outline exactly how to activate WhatsApp Dark Mode.

You underestimate the power of the Dark Side

So it turns out that there’s a lot more to the new Dark Mode than first meets the eye.

In fact, WhatsApp designers spent a long time researching the best shades of colour to minimise eye fatigue without compromising the readability of text.

Of course, it’s been optimised for use on both iOS and Android and has been crafted to remain consistent with the system defaults for both devices.

Hello Dark Mode my old friend

WhatsApp launched their new update with a rather apt trailer full of people flinching at bright screens.

It features an unreleased version of The Sound of Silence by Paul Simon and is well worth a watch. You can check out the video here…

How to activate WhatsApp Dark Mode

The new aesthetic update was launched on March 3rd, but it won’t be rolled out across all accounts for a few days.

Once you do have the option to use Dark Mode, activating it is a simple process.

Head over to ‘Settings’ in your app, then click ‘Chats’ and flick the switch to turn on Dark Mode.

Those of you lucky enough to be using Android 10 or iOS 13 will notice that the app can be set to remember your system settings.
